Military Star School Overview

At Jim Hill, we provide resources and guidance to help military families navigate school transitions. Our staff works closely with families to ensure that scholars have the academic support they need as they enroll, transfer, or prepare for postsecondary opportunities.

Military-connected scholars have access to personalized academic planning services. Counselors and teachers work with families to align coursework, ensure credits transfer smoothly, and support each scholar’s path to graduation, college, and career readiness.

We are committed to offering military scholars a wide range of resources and opportunities, including extracurricular activities, leadership development, academic enrichment, and community service programs.

Our scholar-led transition team helps new military scholars feel at home within two weeks of arrival. This program includes:

• A designated scholar transition coordinator
• A peer-support system that connects new scholars with current scholar leaders
• A process to help new scholars learn about school clubs, activities, and upcoming events

Support services are provided in all JPS schools. The JPS Office of Exceptional Education Services provides a variety of support services to scholars with disabilities, including:

• Assistive Technology Evaluation and Services 
• Behavioral Intervention Services 
• Educational Services
• Homebound Services 
• Language/Speech Services 
• Occupational Therapy 
• Physical Therapy 
• Psychological Services, including pre-school and school-age assessments 
• Specialized Medical Care

We recognize that military life can bring unique challenges for scholars and families. Jim Hill provides access to counseling services, school-based mental health resources, and partnerships with community organizations to ensure the well-being of every scholar. Jackson Public Schools partners with Hinds Behavioral Health Services and Marion Counseling Services to provide additional services for scholars.

School liaisons are located at each installation and are the main contact for military families, local school systems and installation leadership for school-related matters pre-K through grade 12. School liaisons are experienced professionals who support, advise and build partnerships with the civilian and military community to help address common education challenges of military families. School liaison support is available at no cost and open to all Defense Department identification card holders, educators who serve military scholars, and community partners involved with pre-K-12 education.
